The southern beaches of Margarita, including El Yaque and the nearby island of Coche, are considered as one of the top 5 spots for these sports worldwide and are included in the annual circuit of professionals in these sports worldwide. One of the best known events in this sport is WILD WIND, which is held annually during the month of June and brings together practitioners from all over the world.  Beginners of these sports also find a large number of options in terms of schools, courses and top-brand equipment.

The benefits of these beaches are based on wind speed, almost constant throughout the year and the size of the waves, coupled with ideal weather all year round which vary between 27 to 32 degrees C.

The geographical position of El Yaque allows for winds to flow east-to-west parallel to the shore (on the shore side) propelling a natural acceleration due to the thermal effect of the water, which has a depth of only 1.5 meters during the first 300 meters, combined  with the effects  produced by a mountain range just north of the beach, which  creates a circuit  of wind acceleration with average wind force 4 Bft+. This is the great secret that allows El Yaque to guarantee constant winds throughout the year, making it a heaven for practitioners of these wind sports. 

During the month of January the arrival of the trade winds make Margarita  The "Formula One" spot  of  windsurfing. Steady winds with force 5, 6, and 7 Bft are common during this period (January-June). The warm waters complement the optimum conditions, remaining in a range between  27 ° C and 32 ° C.
