Margarita Island, a place for adventure fishing.
Margarita was known as PARAGUAICOA, whcih in the Guaiqueri dialect of the indigenous people of the island, menas "abundant catch". Margarita Island has been a fishing outpost in Venezuela and the Caribbean. Fishing in Margarita is an activity common to its residents and has been so historically. The islands around Margarita, including Aruba, Curacao and Bonaire were populated to a large extent, by indigenous people who came from Margarita during their fishing expeditions.
It is a frequent scene to see small-scale fishing operations around Margarita ranging from bottom hook, longlina and trawls and dredges. Margarita produces 70% of the sardine consumed in Venezuela, exports snappers and Catalan groupers to nearby islands including Bonaire, Grenada, St. Martin, St. Thomas.
Margarita is therefore ideal for fishing right off the beach or at shallow waters. However, for those who want a bigger adventure, a fishing tour can be scheduled with our boat, equipped with various types of fishing gea. We leave very early from the marina and go to Los Frailes and once in a while to La Sola island, located one and half hour from Margarita. It is common to catch barracuda, mackerel, wahoo, sawfish, albacore and a wide variety of tuna.
Your trip will never be in vain and the landscape contrast between the deep blue sea and the mountains on the horizon will make this an unforgettable experience. A refreshing beer and a good lunch is the perfect complement to this experience.
